you might think you were in Maine.

This painting on prepared birch panel is cradled for easy hanging. It measures 12x12".

River Surf oil on paper mounted on board 6x8" 2009

This small study was done from the Eastern shoreline of the Hudson, near Statsburg.
It was a cold early winter morning and the river was covered in mist in the distance. One might think they were on the coast instead of the river.

Winter Surf oil on gessoed panel 10x20"

I started this small painting during the winter on Cape Cod, but I never finished it. Today while going through some other work I discovered it and finished it. I really felt like I was there and it only needed a little work to bring it to conclusion. I love the Cape in Winter. This painting is a bit larger than my other daily work, but I think it fits in nicely.

Unsettled Winter Sky oil on canvass 8x8"

I love the cold blustery days of winter, when the sky cant seem to make up its mind.
This my second sky study done for my "100 Paintings" project.  It too, was painted form the east side of the Hudson looking west.

oil on gessoed masonite panel 12x12 inches
This painting was started onsite today and finished inside just a short while ago. After several days of cold
dreary weather we finally got some sunlight and it was warm enough to go out.  The spot was easy to get to from
where I parked my car. Usually a spot for fly fishermen to park, It is on the esopus just a short drive from my studio.
The piece is a bit larger than most of my small pieces, but the panel was handy and lent itself well to the
composition

Cold Evening

oil on gessoed masonite 8x10 in a floater frame 2010

Well, the storm didn't miss us this time, although so far we have been spared the heavy stuff.

I love the way sunlight at the end of a cold winter day can sharpen the contrasts of color.

I said I would go into a little history of the "painting a day" movement.  Duane Keiser, an Artist from Richmond,
VA was one of the first to try this venture and he has gone on to great success. Julian Merro-Smith, who
lives in the south of France was another artist to start putting his daily work on the web. This all started
about 6-7 years ago and now there are many artists doing the same.

They represent just about every style. Another painter, Victoria Webb of Westchester, PA shows expressionistic
and colorful landscapes that can be quite abstract. She has even opened sites on e bay and etsy, as well as on
her site "furiousdreams.com.

My reasons for starting my site are simple.  I usually work larger and a bit more abstractly with my Landscapes,
though they are all started  either outdoors or from photos I have taken.  Many of my small paintings are the basis for larger work that is developed later in the studio.  This gives me a chance to let others see this work, and quite frankly to own an original oil painting at very reasonable price. Its a good way for young people to start their
own collections.  Lately I have been having back problems that make it painful to stand at an easel for long periods of time.  With these small paintings I can sit in my car or at my chair in front of an easel, without the
discomfort of standing. Its an artistic way to recover, and has taken away any excuse I may have had for not working.

I hope you enjoy my efforts

Winter Study oil on canvass 8x8" 2010

This the second entry of my "100 Paintings" project.   I will be posting a new work daily for the next 98 days.
These small works are the seeds for many of my larger paintings.  I will include still life as well as landscapes
As the weather warms toward spring I will start to move outdoors to do small studies and larger works and
some of those will also find their way to this blog.

For a limited time I am offering these works for $100.00 plus shipping, Click on the works section of my
navigation bar and find the image. Then just push the "Buy Now" button. I am setting up a link to make that
easier but that may take a day or two.

In the meantime, enjoy these small gems and the rest of the site as well. Tomorrow I will have more information on the history of the "Daily Painting" movement that is growing on the Internet, and why I decided to join in.
